Lunch and Learn Series: Technique Boutique - Journey Mapping

Thursday, February 11, 2021 -
11:30am to 12:30pm

We're excited to announce the first session of our NEW Lunch and Learn series, an opportunity to take a break from your work day to enhance your BA skillset and share your knowledge with your fellow BAs.

In our first lunchtime session (hosted with our sister chapters, IIBA Palmetto and IIBA Halifax) participants will be introduced to journey mapping by Maxime Joanisse, a Senior Business Analyst. Journey mapping is used by business analysts to discover and analyze the relationship a customer or user has with a product or service. The journey map then leads to a solution that is optimized for the customer's most positive user experience.

From our facilitator, Maxime Joanisse:

"I like to compare BA work to my former trade: carpentry. I really enjoyed renovating houses. You know... you start with a place that looks old or broken and you bring it back to fashion. It's very similar to what we do as BAs. An old business process slows everyone down? Let's modernize it and make it more efficient! A business application no longer meets the needs of its users? It needs to be modernized!

Have you ever tried building something by reading a flat list of requirements in an Excel file? Who likes that? Why would we think that people in our teams or our stakeholders are any different when it comes to implementing a new business application?

Using visual support really helps me understanding complex problems. I assume it is the same for most of us. As a BA, I like understanding the full picture when approaching a problem. To achieve that, I recently started using Journey Mapping. It's an approach that helps everyone reach a common understanding while keeping what's important in the center of our discussions: the users!"
