Meet the Instructors




Barbara Carkenord: CBAP®, IIBA®-AAC, PMI-PBA®, PMP®, PMI-ACP®
Barbara provides business analysis consulting and training helping companies increase success through better analysis. Barbara co-founded two successful business analysis training companies and worked in varied industries including manufacturing, financial services, and software development. She has written books, articles, blogs, and training material aimed at helping professionals enhance their skills including Seven Steps to Mastering Business Analysis First Edition.
Barbara helped define the business analysis profession, volunteering for IIBA. She helped to develop the worldwide standard for analysis, the BABOK® Guide, and currently volunteers with IIBA International as a Board Director and with The Palmetto Chapter.

Stacey Caulder:
Business Systems Analyst, Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina
I have been employed with Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina for 22 years with 16 years’ experience as a Business System Analyst in the Commercial Systems Division of Information Systems. Most recently I changed roles to become the manager of a team of Business System Analysts within BCBSSC. I have an Associate Degree in Science from the University of South Carolina and obtained my CBAP certification in October 2014. I am married with two sons and enjoy boating on Lake Wateree and lounging by the pool in my free time.

Olivia Hampton
Olivia has more than 15 years of information technology experience. During that time, she worked for software, telecommunications, training services, and non-profit companies providing business analysis, project management, operations, and training support. She has a B.S. degree in Computer Information Systems, and she is currently pursuing an MBA at Western Governor's University. Olivia is certified through IIBA as an AAC and an ECBA, and through PMI as a CAPM. She also holds information technology certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, and As a result of being a primary caregiver to ill family members for many years, Olivia became interested in learning about the connection between nutrition and chronic disease. That interest led her to complete a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition through Cornell University. In her free time, Olivia enjoys sharing what she has learned about nutrition with others, volunteering with a local animal shelter, singing in her church choir, and exercising.

Mary Person
Senior Business Analyst, College of Charleston
Having worked in academia for nearly 20 years in a variety of roles within IT, transitioning to the role of Senior Business Analyst in the last couple of years was a natural progression. The types of initiatives I support at the College range from new courses for students to a new interactive and proactive safety and emergency tip and notification solution. I work with IT to ensure the College campus is able to work more efficiently and effectively to enable our students to achieve success in their lives once they graduate. I earned a BS in Business and MBA/Accounting from Charleston Southern University and am working toward my IIBA certification. I am lucky to live in Charleston with my active Boykin Spaniel, Beau. I enjoy traveling internationally, to root for my favorite sports teams, and for rock concerts as often as I can.
Adriane Sagal:
I have been a Business Analyst with EDENS in Columbia, SC for over 6 years. After launching a new intranet and enterprise content management platform, I continue to support application enhancements and upgrades along with other business process improvement initiatives.  I relocated to South Carolina from Grand Rapids, MI where I pursued a career in ecommerce and software implementation with a regional coffee roasting company. Projects included accounting platform development and migration, a retail point-of-sale system, and a ground-up ecommerce platform. I obtained my CBAP in early 2019 and I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Computer Science programming certificate from Frostburg State University located in western Maryland. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my very active family and attending youth sporting events.

Sandra Strenk:
I have 20 years of Business Analysis experience including requirements gathering, process design, configuration, testing, cut-over, and post go-live support on large scale implementation projects and smaller enhancement efforts. My background also includes 10+ years of mentoring and training junior IT staff, as well as teaching Business Analysis boot camps. I am currently working as a subcontractor for a property and casualty insurance company.  I hold both CSM and CSPO Scrum Alliance certifications.

Jill Tartaglini
Jill began her career in business analysis working at Blue Shield of California. She’s held roles of Intermediate Systems Analyst, Senior Systems Analyst, as well as Senior and Lead Business Analyst. During her tenure at Blue Shield, she worked on two large scale projects. Her most notable is when she worked on transitioning ICD-9 Diagnosis Codes to ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes, which involved the modification of more than 100 different programs. Jill also worked on a project to migrate a purchased health plan and all of its components to a new system. 
Following an extensive career at Blue Shield, Jill joined the College of Charleston as a Business Analyst who has become involved in the campus’s new Access Control project to update wired and wireless locking mechanisms across the school in various buildings and areas. Outside of the office, Jill is studying for the CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) certification and enjoys watching her favorite teams play, the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Kings, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Nicolas E. Valdes
I received my Masters in Health Administration in 2018, where I also accepted the role to be a Technology Business Analyst within the IT department at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). My main focus is working in the hospital & health care industry. I specialize in Project Management, Performance Improvement, Requirement Elicitation, Hospital and Ambulatory Clinic Design & Construction, and Strategic Planning. In my downtime, I enjoy being outside with my dog, going to live music events, and spending time with family and friends. 

Lianne Watford
I am an Independent Business Owner with a history of working as a Senior Business Analyst in the insurance industry for over 20 years.  My specialties are in the areas of policy, claims and billing system support, customer training, account management, development of business requirements, specifications, and test planning.
Prior to the insurance industry, I received an Associate degree in Commercial Education, worked in Banking for over 10 years, and have held a South Carolina Real Estate License since 1995.  However, my most coveted accomplishment is the Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) designation in 2014. I live on beautiful Lake Murray with my husband and 14-year-old Cocker Spaniel.  In my spare time, I enjoy our 12 grandchildren and boating.
